About the Monitor Surveillance Program

Sentara College of Health Sciences is an accredited college offering a Monitor Surveillance (MS) course. We provide you with an exceptional education, backed by the nationally recognized integrated health system, Sentara. As a student in our daytime course, you will enjoy hands-on learning, ensuring you are competent and confident as a professional MS Technician. Upon completion of this course, we offer you placement assistance within Sentara.

  • This course will prepare you to read and interpret EKGs and learn how to properly chart the readings
  • Complete the course in 15 weeks
  • Hybrid classes are held at our Chesapeake campus and online, with clinical experiences held throughout area Sentara hospitals and facilities
  • Applications are taken on an ongoing basis. First come, first serve
  • Payment plans are available. The College is also approved for veterans' benefits

About the Patient Care Tech or Nursing Care Partner Program

Sentara College of Health Sciences is an accredited college offering a Patient Care Technician course. We provide you with an exceptional education, backed by the nationally recognized integrated health system, Sentara. As a student in our full-time course, you will enjoy hands-on learning, ensuring you are competent and confident as a professional Patient Care Technician. Upon completion of this course, we offer you placement assistance within Sentara as a Patient Care Technician or Nursing Care Partner.

Applications are first come, first serve. Classes begin each January and August.

  • Learn how to assist patients with daily living needs and also perform blood draws, wound care, dressing changes, EKGs, and other more invasive procedures
  • Complete the course in 16 weeks
  • Hybrid classes are held at our Chesapeake campus and online, with clinical experiences held throughout area Sentara hospitals and facilities
  • Graduates of the Course will be eligible to work in Sentara facilities as a Patient Care Technician or Nursing Care Partner
